Action cameras have earned a massive reputation in the tech community for their ultra-wide perspective, rugged build quality, and class-leading digital image stabilization.

However, after unboxing the camera and taking it out for a real-world test run, I stumbled upon a specific operational quirk that caught me completely off guard a functional limitation that surprisingly few mainstream reviewers mention.

1. The Big Surprise: You Cannot Zoom While Recording

• Move Closer Physically: Action cameras shine when they are physically close to the subject. Rather than relying on digital zoom, walk closer when safe to do so.
• Pre-Plan Framing: Decide whether you need an expansive landscape view or a tighter composition before pressing the shutter button.
